Certified nursing assistants are licensed nursing aides with classroom education and hands-on experience. Out of the three varieties of caregivers, CNAs have the most rigorous health care education and caregiving training requirements. They also provide the most caregiver support, including monitoring medical conditions and administering certain treatments.

Home health aides offer support services to older adults and others in assisted living situations who need help remaining independent. Their duties include educating clients on proper nutrition, light housekeeping, dressing and monitoring wounds, and more. States require that HHAs meet similar caregiving training requirements as CNAs. However, their health care training is more limited.

Companion caregivers and private homemakers in the state of Georgia need training in basic caregiving skills, including HIPAA, safety, infection control, and elder abuse. In addition, potential caregivers need 8 hours of training on state-approved topics within the first year of certification, with renewal training each following year. Here at MDC Healthcare, we offer that training.

Nurse aides must complete a state-approved program that meets the minimum federal caregiving training requirements and pass the CNA certification exam. Continuing education units (CEUs) are required every following year.

A valid driver’s license and clean driving record are also required.
